About Image

Political education in schools is required now more than ever.

Young people in the UK don't get any formal education on politics, so we set out to change this.

Our programme has grown increasingly important since the announcement that 16 and 17 year olds will have the right to vote in 2029. This means that children who are currently 12 will be voting at the next election.

The yPolitics School Outreach Programme provides KS3 and KS4 students in the UK with an introduction to UK politics, giving them the key facts they should know in a non-partisan way.

These aren't "lessons" where students are lectured on politics, it's an interactive presentation, and students are encouraged to ask any questions they might have.

Our outreach programme is free to all schools.

Ambassador led sessions

If your school is within reach of a yPolitics Ambassador, you can organise for an ambassador to come in and lead the session.

We prefer doing ambassador led sessions rather than teacher led sessions as we find the students engage better. Having an ambassador run the session means there is a smaller age gap to the students, and doesn't make it feel like a normal lesson.

We find that these sessions are best placed during a PSHE slot or after school. It's up to you as a school if you want to make the sessions mandatory for students to attend, or optional.

All yPolitics university ambassadors receive mandatory training to be able to lead the sessions.

Teacher led

We understand that we can't reach all schools in the UK, that's why we've created a pack so teachers can lead our sessions.

Just like our ambassador led sessions we offer 2 different sessions, one for KS3 students and one for KS4 students.

Included in the pack is:

  1. The presentations
  2. A guide for the teacher, guiding you through the presentation and session
  3. A handout for the students to use during the session

Feedback from a trial session we ran earlier this year:

“Jamie engaged the children with his expertise, content and delivery, and through carefully planned discussions was able to involve the students in conversations around politics. Children left understanding more about the political systems in the UK, and thoroughly enjoyed Jamie's session. We recommend Jamie and yPolitics highly”

How do I organise a session for my school?

Get in contact with our Director Jamie and he can help organise either an Ambassador Session or send you our session pack for a teacher led session.
